RETURN TO ART

Ongoing Project:
52 WEEKS OF ART

52 Weeks of Art.
52 random words, themes or subjects.
52 times to make a fresh start with any medium.

Why? To open up creative blockages and gain better artistic chi.

Here's the deal... Some pieces will be completed and some will serve as artistic exercise. The subjects selected from an "idea bag" will be interpreted in multiple mediums, from chalks to oil paintings to paper. As a friend and an admirer of art, I am sharing this journey with you. Enjoy!

Week 1:
Perspective

Surfers
asurfersbeach

Week 1 Notes: I am not off to a very strong start with this piece, but then, perspective was never really my thing. I designed a dream home for this project because we are currently house hunting and can't find anything we are interested in. For the record, I wouldn't live in this "dream home" either. Better luck next time. Working with perspective after 10 years or so was interesting and surprisingly satisfying.

Week 2 Notes: Inspired by the recent snorkeling trips my husband and I went on, I decided to work in cut paper for this piece. Reefs are beautiful and they are in layers with new and exciting things under each plant or piece of coral. This saltwater aquarium piece is also inspired by my cousin's old saltwater tank, which I always admired.

Week 3 Notes: After a really long break, I painted with oils today. I had forgotten how great it feels to smooth oil on a canvas. It was like seeing an old friend that I have missed. To stir some irony into the pot, this will be the last oil painting I do for quite a while... I am pregnant! Apparently, it's not great to huff a bunch of toxic fumes while you're expecting. Hence, a beach without the surfers actually being painted on. One day I will update it.

Week 6:
Lincoln Road Special Sandwich

Week 4 Notes: My husband came home to find me cutting up paint samples and weaving them together. As I sat in a pile of cut up paper, I saw a look of concern in his eyes. Upon the completion of this piece, he admitted that he thought I might be losing my mind, but he loves the final result and it has become one of his favorite pieces.
